At Jackman Optometry, we invest in state-of-the-art technology to provide the best possible eye and vision care for our patients. We utilize a paperless electronic health record (EHR) system with a patient portal for secure communications and file sharing. You can access your portal to contact our office, retrieve invoices, prescriptions, digital images of your retinas, and test results.
Here are some of the instruments we rely on to keep your eyes healthy and your vision clear and comfortable.
The Auto Lensometer provides an accurate digital analysis of prescription lenses.
The Auto Refractor/Auto Keratometer utilizes advanced wavefront technology to provide analysis of the refraction of the eye as well as the front curvature of the cornea.
The Perimeter or Visual Field machine can detect visual abnormalities caused by diseases such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, brain tumors, and strokes.
The iCare Tonometer allows us to check the eye pressure for glaucoma without an air puff and without numbing eye drops. Our patients often comment that this test is much easier for them than the air puff test.
The Corneal Topographer is a non-invasive instrument to map the surface of the cornea. It is used in fitting specialty contact lenses such as those used in orthokeratology. It can also detect corneal disorders such as keratoconus.
The OCT, or Optical Coherence Tomographer, uses light to capture high resolution, three-dimensional images of internal and external structures of the eye. It can help to detect and monitor glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other eye diseases. It is also used in specialty contact lens fitting.
This iWellness report features a cross-section of the macula. The iWellness Exam helps detect macular degeneration, glaucoma, macular holes, and other eye diseases.
Dr. Jackman used this scan to assess whether there was an appropriate amount of clearance between the scleral contact lens and the cornea. OCT technology is very useful in fitting specialty contact lenses.
The QuantifEye is used to measure macular pigment optical density (MPOD). Macular pigment is important in protecting the photo-receptors from high energy blue-violet light. Low MPOD is treated with zeaxanthin and lutein supplements to lower the risk of macular degeneration.
The Retinal Camera captures high resolution digital images of the retina. These images can help to detect diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other diseases. This retina is healthy.
Anterior Segment Photography helps us document eye conditions. These are photos Dr. Jackman took of a metallic corneal foreign body before removal and a severe dry eye.
The Infrared Camera enables us to see and document the meibomian (oil) glands in the lids. These glands are not visible without specialized infrared instruments. Healthy meibomian glands are extremely important for clear, comfortable vision and eye health. Due to staring at screens and not blinking enough, many of us have MG atrophy, as seen in these photos. If detected, there are many treatments available to slow or prevent further atrophy.
The Zocular Eyelid System Treatment, also known as ZEST, is a comprehensive solution designed to address various eyelid and ocular conditions. This innovative system combines Zocular's proprietary therapeutic formulations with specialized products to promote healthy eyelids and reduce eye discomfort. It is particularly effective in managing issues such as dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, and meibomian gland dysfunction. Zocular Eyelid System Treatment is a trusted choice for those seeking a non-invasive, convenient, and effective approach to maintaining eye and eyelid wellness.
BlephEx™ is a painless in-office procedure performed by our staff. The BlephEx™ hand piece is used to precisely and carefully spin a medical grade micro-sponge along the edge of your eyelids and lashes, removing inflammatory biofilm and debris. Biofilm and debris lead to chronic lid disease, discomfort, and often disfiguring lid changes. BlephEx is used to prevent and to treat blepharitis and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
The EyeXpress is an in-office comfortable treatment for Dry Eye. It is a non-invasive eye hydration system to treat the meibomian oil glands. It is a very relaxing treatment that can also help reduce stress. EyeXpress can be used to treat chronic meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
